The Super Falcons of Nigeria have once again captured the continent’s attention with their stellar performance at the ongoing 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). With an unbeaten run, zero goals conceded, and a squad oozing talent and unity, the Falcons are well on track to achieve what they've dubbed “Mission X”—their 10th WAFCON title.
Group Stage Dominance
Drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, the Super Falcons demonstrated why they remain the most successful team in African women's football history.
Matchday 1: Nigeria 3 – 0 Tunisia
Matchday 2: Nigeria 1 – 0 Botswana
Matchday 3: Nigeria 0 – 0 Algeria
The Falcons topped the group without conceding a single goal. With controlled aggression, tight defensive discipline, and moments of brilliance in attack, they sealed a smooth passage to the quarterfinals.
Quarterfinals: Total Annihilation
In what can only be described as a masterclass, Nigeria demolished Zambia 5‑0 in the quarterfinals. From set-pieces to open play, every aspect of the game clicked:
Osinachi Ohale opened the scoring with a powerful header.
Chinwendu Ihezuo and Gift Okoronkwo followed with clinical finishes.
Tosin Demehin added another with a sharp header.
Youngster Rukayat Ijamilusi iced the cake in stoppage time.
It was the kind of performance that sends a warning to every remaining contender.
Players to Watch
Asisat Oshoala (Forward) – The Barcelona forward continues to lead by example with her movement and leadership.
Rasheedat Ajibade (Captain, Midfielder) – Creative engine and fearless leader from Atlético Madrid.
Chiamaka Nnadozie (Goalkeeper) – A wall in goal, calm under pressure, and organizing the backline with maturity beyond her years.
Ashleigh Plumptre & Osinachi Ohale – Defensive duo blending European class and Nigerian grit.
The team blends seasoned veterans with exciting young prospects, creating a balance that is paying off handsomely.
“Mission X”: One Team. One Goal. One More Star.
The rallying cry for this year’s campaign is simple but powerful: “Mission X”. With nine WAFCON titles already in the cabinet, the Super Falcons are aiming to bring home their 10th and cement their legacy as Africa’s queens of football.
Beyond the football, they’ve shown resilience in the face of challenges—from logistical setbacks to off-field uncertainties. But if there’s one thing Nigeria knows how to do, it’s win against the odds.
